Leaky Sinks - Water Conservation

Drip, drip, drip...the average household leaks thousands of gallons of water a year. Here are some easy tips to see if you have leaks.

  1. Place a cup under a faucet and leave it there for a few hours. Is it dry? No leaks!

  2. Is your toilet a water thief? Put a couple of drops of food coloring in the tank and wait 10-15 minutes and check the bowl. If the food coloring made its way there then the flapper in the tank needs to be replaced. Make sure to flush the food coloring so it doesn’t stain the tank.

  3. Find your water meter and right down the positions on the dials. When you come home from work see if the dials are the same. If so, no leaks!
