Earth Day Columbus
Thousands joined Green Columbus and lead sponsor The Green Funds of the Columbus Foundation for Earth Day 2013: Stand Together. And we can’t thank you enough!
Thousands stood together and supported Green Columbus’ 7th Annual Earth Day celebration – Earth Day 2013: Stand Together, to thanking the volunteers that participated in the largest volunteer service effort across the country for Earth Day. Tens of thousands of hours of hard work were put in on April 20-21 to make Columbus a greener community with healthier rivers, taller trees and a lighter impact on our natural environment.
On the weekend of April 20 & 21, we stood together with 3,500+ of our Central Ohio neighbors to plant trees, pull invasives, cleanup neighborhoods, prepare gardens, and more at over 130 volunteer activities across the region. Then on Saturday, April 27 you stood together with your friends, favorite local bands, food trucks, environmental groups, green businesses, and more at a Columbus Commons celebration commemorating our Earth Day 2013 accomplishments.
With the data still coming in, it looks like 2013 was our biggest volunteer turnout yet. Since Green Columbus started an Earth Day event here in 2007, our Earth Day efforts have resulted in over 50,000 hours of donated labor. In the last four years alone, volunteers planted 25,000 trees throughout the region. Created from the outpouring of citizen enthusiasm for Earth Day 2007: A Year in a Day, Green Columbus exists to promote sustainable living throughout Central Ohio by providing forums, raising awareness, and encouraging everyday, local action.
